Junchi Heavy Industry’s Fast Loading & Unloading Solution centers on the full-side opening curtain semi-trailer. Unlike conventional dry vans or standard side curtain trailers with limited openings, the Junchi design features full-length curtains on both sides that retract completely from front to rear, exposing the entire cargo floor from side to side.
How It Works:
Two forklifts position themselves on opposite sides of the trailer. The driver releases the tensioning rails on both sides, then pulls the curtains fully open – a 30-second operation for an experienced driver. Both forklifts enter the trailer simultaneously, one from the left, one from the right. Each forklift works its own side of the trailer, loading pallets in parallel. When the trailer is full, the driver closes both curtains, re-tensions the rails, and the trailer is ready for the road.
The Time Savings:
Standard dry van (rear door only, one forklift): 50 minutes
Standard dry van (rear door only, two forklifts queued): 45 minutes
Junchi full-side curtain (two forklifts, side access): 18 minutes
That is a 60% reduction in dock time. In a distribution center processing 20 trailers per shift, the time savings add up to over 10 hours of recovered dock capacity per day – without adding a single new dock door.
Junchi’s full-side curtain semi-trailer is not a simple tarp-and-pole design. It is engineered for the abuse of daily high-frequency loading.
Curtain Material: The side curtains are manufactured from PVC-coated polyester fabric with a tear strength of 450 Newtons and tensile strength of 3,500 N per 50mm strip. The material is tested to withstand 5,000 open-close cycles without failure – equivalent to 10 years of daily use for most distribution operations. The fabric is UV-stabilized for outdoor storage and resistant to diesel, oil, and common warehouse chemicals.
Tensioning System: The upper and lower tensioning rails are extruded aluminum with stainless steel springs. The tensioning mechanism is single-lever operated – one pull locks both upper and lower rails simultaneously. No ratchets, no loose straps, no tools required.
Roof Structure: The fixed roof is constructed from aluminum or steel bows spaced at 800mm intervals, supporting a reinforced PVC roof membrane. The roof is load-rated to withstand walking for tarp repairs and snow loads up to 100 kg per square meter.
Floor and Chassis: The cargo floor is 6mm checkered steel plate on a through-beam frame with crossmembers at 500mm spacing. The floor is rated for forklift traffic up to 5 tons axle load. The chassis is constructed from Q550D high-strength steel, with a 5-year fatigue-free warranty.
The fast loading and unloading solution delivers benefits that extend well beyond dock time reduction.
Reduced Driver Detention: Drivers spend less time waiting at docks, preserving hours-of-service for actual driving. For a regional delivery route with five stops per day, switching from rear-door-only to side curtain loading saves 90 minutes of driver wait time daily. Over a year, that is 375 additional driving hours per driver – equivalent to 47 extra delivery days.
Lower Yard Congestion: With faster dock turns, the number of trailers queued in the yard drops significantly. A distribution center that previously required 12 dock doors for 40 trailers per shift can reduce to 9 doors with side curtain trailers, freeing yard space for other uses.
Flexible Warehouse Integration: The full-side opening curtain allows loading from either side, giving warehouse managers flexibility to assign trailers to any dock position regardless of door orientation. This eliminates the need to reposition trailers when the scheduled dock is occupied.
Reduced Product Damage: Forklifts entering from the side have better visibility of their load position compared to backing into a dark rear-door opening. Junchi’s side curtain trailers include interior LED lighting strips that illuminate automatically when the curtains open, further reducing the risk of product damage during loading.
A grocery distribution center in Thailand processing 350 pallets per day switched their 25-trailer fleet to Junchi full-side opening curtain semi-trailers. Before the switch, their average dock time per trailer was 52 minutes. After the switch, average dock time dropped to 19 minutes. The distribution center eliminated two dock doors from their operation, converting the space to additional cold storage. Forklift utilization improved from 55% to 89%. Driver detention claims from carriers fell to zero.
A parcel hub in Saudi Arabia operating a high-volume cross-dock replaced 40 standard dry vans with Junchi side curtain trailers. The hub increased daily throughput from 1,200 to 1,900 pallets using the same labor and same dock doors. The hub manager reported that the side curtain design eliminated the bottleneck that had constrained growth for three years.
Junchi Heavy Industry does not sell a curtain trailer. We deliver a dock time reduction system. Every full-side opening curtain semi-trailer is built to the customer’s specific pallet dimensions, forklift fleet, and dock configuration. We provide on-site measurement of your loading dock heights, aisle widths, and turning radii before building the first trailer.
From the distribution center to the retail store, from the parcel hub to the cold chain depot – Junchi Heavy Industry’s fast loading and unloading solution turns dock time into road time.
